Gary Steven Robbat banned for three months

National midfielder Gary Steven Robbat has been banned for three months and fined RM50,000 for signing contracts with two Super League teams.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed the verdict after a meeting in Kelana Jaya on Friday.

On top of the three-month suspension and fine, the FAM voided all the contracts signed by Robbat, which turned him into a free agent until April 2015.

The former Harimau Muda A star was at the centre of a transfer controversy after agreeing to join Pahang and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) despite not securing a proper clearance from the FAM to leave the development team.

The transfer fiasco became more complicated when Kedah, being his home state team, claimed that Robbat rightfully belonged to them as stipulated by the FAM on Harimau Muda players.

Besides Robbat, the FAM also handed JDT a RM100,000 fine and gave a stern warning to Pahang for their involvements, while Kedah’s claim was dismissed.

It is unclear if Robbat and JDT will file for an appeal to reduce their respective punishments.
