Griffiths and Mehmet slam match officials after JDT defeat

Sarawak forwards Ryan Griffiths and Billy Mehmet were unhappy with the match officials in their 2-1 defeat to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Saturday.

Despite getting a 1-0 lead, Sarawak failed to hold on as JDT star Safiq Rahim scored two goals to condemn the Crocs to their first league defeat of the season.

It proved to be an ill-tempered encounter, with Sarawak's Ivan Fatic getting shown his second yellow card and sent off after throwing the ball in frustration in the dying minutes of the game and Griffiths, at one point, insinuating that the referee was favouring the home team by making a money gesture.

Following the match, the Australian striker took to Twitter to declare the injustice he felt.

"I know I will get in trouble for flashing the money sign to the referee, but tonight was a disgrace and all of Malaysia saw what happened!" he posted on his personal Twitter account.

His striker partner, Mehmet had a similarly frustrating night as well, as he tweeted: "It's now okay for a linesman to say 'f*** your mother' in Malaysia and nothing will get done because that's how it is; what a disgrace."

It is the second week in a row that match officials involved in a JDT match were criticised for their performances.

Last week, PKNS defender Aminuddin Noor took to Twitter to vent his frustration at some of the decisions made by the referee in his team's 2-1 FA Cup defeat to JDT II.
