Juma'at Jantan wants to finish on a high note

Home United defender Juma'at Jantan claims the Protectors are stronger than ever this season, and is eyeing some silverware as he winds down his career.

“I think it’s a very, very good squad. We have a few players who are ex-LionsXII like Izzdin (Shafiq), Fazli Ayob, and even Yasir Hanapi used to play there with me in 2012. I think this year’s team is much, much better," Juma'at said when FourFourTwo caught up with him at the recent PUMA evoPOWER launch event.

Home United led a clean sweep of the three major awards at the S.League Awards Night last season, and have held on to the trio of Coach of the Year Lee Lim-Saeng, Player of the Year Lee Kwan-Woo and Young Player of the Year Sirina Camara.

The Protectors have also added also a few new players to their ranks, including Brazilian-Japanese striker Bruno Castanheira from Albirex Niigata.

Juma'at was happy to single out Lee Kwan-Woo and Bruno Castanheira for special mention, praising their training performances in pre-season.

“Lee, you cannot say lah. I think he’s one of the best players in the league, last season also Player of the Year," he said.

"Bruno’s new, he’s good, very good. For a foreigner, I think he’s one of the players that blend in really well with the locals.”

The 29-year-old is aware that this might be one of his last few seasons in the S.League, and seemed eager to finally get his hands on the league trophy after a long career with club and country.

“Time’s running out, I think I’m left with a few more years," he said.

"Actually I've reached 30 already, hopefully I win good before I end up my career. It’ll be nice if I finish on a high note.”
