Singapore defender Safuwan Baharudin has been released from his loan deal by Melbourne City, after being ruled out for the season with a back injury.
The 23-year-old played six games for City after joining the A-League club on loan in January, scoring two goals.
He was the first Singaporean player to appear in Australia's top professional league, and made a good impression on fans while appearing in several different positions for the club.
While the Melbourne City website reported that his three month loan deal would have allowed him to participate in the 2015 Finals series, it appears that the injury was serious enough to warrant his return home for treatment.
Safuwan will likely be available for selection by parent club LionsXII if he recovers from his injury, and is also set to play a key part for the National Team when the Lions begin their World Cup qualifying campaign in June.
