Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to put more effort in a bid to improve the standard of officiating in the M-League.
Following the conclusion of the Johor Darul Ta’zim-Sarawak match on Saturday, the referee of the match received heavy criticism, especially from Sarawak forwards Ryan Griffiths and Billy Mehmet.
The President of the Johor Football Association echoed their sentiments in an official statement posted on JDT’s Facebook page.
“I am in agreement with both the JDT and Sarawak players that the refereeing was atrocious,” the Crown Prince of Johor wrote.
“The Malaysian Super League clash ended with victory for the Southern Tigers, but the standard of refereeing left much to be desired.
“I sincerely hope that the FAM will devote more time and resources to improve the standard of refereeing, which is hampering the development of [local] football.”
