Velez, Pejic and Camara to join Stange's Singapore Selection

The trio of foreigners have been in good form in the S.League this season, and will join up with Bernd Stange's squad to face Italian giants Juventus.

Home United's Sirina Camara will be joined by Warriors FC duo Nicolas Velez and Miroslav Pejic in the Singapore Selection to face Juventus on 16 August, after the Football Association of Singapore announced the team on Thursday afternoon.

While French defender Camara was widely expected to make the team, Argentinian winger Velez and Croatian forward Pejic are surprise call-ups to Bernd Stange's squad.

The Singapore head coach has been attending S.League games regularly this season and it appears that the trio have caught his eye ahead of the glamour tie at the new National Stadium.

Stange had previously mentioned his desire to include young foreigners in the team with an eye to naturalising them in the future and it looks like the three S.League players have fit the bill.

Apart from the trio of foreigners, Stange has selected 18 local players, of which 16 are full-fledged internationals.

Captain Shahril Ishak and vice-captain Hariss Harun lead the team, with U23 players Al-Qaasimy Abdul Rahman and Iqbal Hussain keen to make an impression after their Austrian training trip.

"We are treating this match as part of the preparations for the AFF Suzuki Cup at the end of this year, so most of the players are part of the national set-up," Stange said.

"As I have mentioned before, I have also added a few stars from the S.League who have performed well this season.

"I believe this squad will be able to play the sort of game I want the National Team to play, and it will be a good chance to see where we stand after our recent training tour to Austria where we faced some top European teams."

The National Team coach also talked up the Juventus game, saying that his players were determined to give a good account of themselves against the Serie A champions.

"This is going to be a great curtain raiser for football at the new National Stadium and our players are very motivated to put on a good performance.

"We look forward to the full support of all Singapore fans to make it a great atmosphere and a historic night for all of us to remember."

The friendly will take place at the revised kick off time of 6pm on 16 August 2014 at the new National Stadium located at the Singapore Sports Hub.
