The Singapore under-19 side has once again exited the AFF Under-19 Championship at the group stage after losing its final group game 2-0 to Timor Leste.
Even when Vietnam did Singapore a favour and beat Malaysia, the Young Lions failed to achieve the win required to make the semi-finals.
The Young Lions were aiming to make the semi-finals for the first time in history and needed a win over Timor Leste, plus Group A favourites Vietnam to beat Malaysia in the final group fixtures, in order to take second place.
Malaysia duly lost 3-1 to Vietnam, but Singapore couldn't capitalise and make history, with tournament dark horses Timor Leste scoring a goal in each half to finish second with nine points.
Pufino Garma’s fifth-minute strike and Jose Oliveira’s goal at the death meant Singapore finished the tournament with a win, a draw and two losses.
The Republic only attained four points to finish fourth in Group A, ahead of only the Philippines.
Malaysia ended up in third place with six points, which included a 2-1 victory over Singapore.
In Group B, Thailand and Australia have progressed to the semi-finals, with Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos all missing out.
