Zainal: We will not play for a draw against Tampines

Selangor only need a point against Tampines on Tuesday to qualify for the next round of the AFC Cup, but head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan insists he won't adopt a defensive strategy.

After losing to Tampines Rovers 1-0 at home in an earlier Group E AFC Cup tie, Selangor coach Zainal Abidin Hassan knows how hard is it to hold out for a draw against the Stags.

That is why Zainal insisted his side would be playing to win at all costs against Tampines at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

“We will be giving 100 per cent,” Zainal declared at Monday's pre-match press conference. “Advantage is with Tampines, but we are going all out for qualifying.

“We will be there, prepared tactically. You know how difficult it is to play for a draw for 90 minutes, so it is not in our mind.”

Zainal also hoped his players wouldn't allow their 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture to play on their mind against Tampines.

“Definitely it was a big loss for us at home; we had a lot of chances but this is football and we lost the game,” he said.

“Tampines are a good side and much improved in recent seasons, but we have done the preparation for the important game. All my players know their tactical duty.”
