DraftKings advice March 4: the players you should pick to win you cash this weekend

Make sure you're not left behind with football's latest fantasy football game...

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Are you familiar with DraftKings yet? If not, you might fancy a recap of what it’s all about (so head right here).

If you are, or just can’t be bothered wasting precious time reading it, the idea is straightforward. With a $50,000 budget you select 11 players you think will rack up the most points on a given matchday. But to win in DraftKings, you’ll need to outsmart your competition: extra points are awarded for tackles, interceptions and fouls won (among other actions), while goalkeepers earn points for victories.

  • Tottenham vs Arsenal (12:45pm)
  • Man City vs Aston Villa (3pm)
  • Newcastle vs Bournemouth (3pm)
  • Swansea vs Norwich (3pm)
  • Chelsea vs Stoke (3pm)
  • Southampton vs Sunderland (3pm)
  • Everton vs West Ham (3pm)
  • Watford vs Leicester (5:30pm)

It’s a packed Saturday – and it all kicks off with a massive north London derby after midweek defeats for both Tottenham and Arsenal. Harry Kane ($8,200) has good form in this fixture but particularly in London derbies, having netted 13 goals in his last 17.

In reality, though, such an unpredictable game may be best left this weekend. Manchester City, despite humiliation against Liverpool, face a pitiful Aston Villa side at home which makes Sergio Aguero a must-pick despite setting you back $8,600. Gael Clichy ($3,200) is a well-priced full-back who has started his team’s last four big matches.

In goal, Lukasz Fabianski ($3,800) could be worth consideration if you’re looking for a cheap shot-stopper – Swansea face Norwich at home having conceded more than one goal in a game only once in their last seven games. The Canaries, meanwhile, have notched only three goals in their last eight league away games.

West Ham travel to Everton in fine form, with Michail Antonio ($5,100) on a hot streak having scored four goals in his last seven games. Where cheap midfielders are concerned also consider Norwich’s Robbie Brady, who has proved a consistent provider from wide positions. Crosses earn you 1pt apiece in DraftKings, and Brady has put in 31 of them in his last four matches. He should get some joy against Swansea – missing teeth or otherwise after his midweek collision with team-mate Gary O’Neil.

Finally, Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is an interesting option at St James’ Park against Bournemouth. The ex-Swansea man pulled in 11pts in the 1-0 defeat to Stoke and has been scoring well since joining Steve McClaren’s side – he’s always a willing shooter (+1pt each), but weighs in with useful amounts of crosses and tackles won too.

  • Crystal Palace vs Liverpool (3pm)
  • West Brom vs Man United (4pm)

Crystal Palace against Liverpool has grown as a Premier League fixture. It’s now one of those that gets shown on the telly all the time, not least thanks to that time Palace crushed Red dreams for good back in 2014. Then they did it again in Stevie G’s last game for Liverpool.

In fact, Crystal Palace have won six of their last 11 meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, making them proper pests. For the visitors, though, Jon Flanagan is back after playing 90 minutes and netting 9pts against Man City, and can be yours for only $2,300.

Meanwhile in Manchester, Guillermo Varela is the kind of attacking full-back you’ll be wanting to bag points having done well since breaking into Louis van Gaal’s first team. The Uruguayan costs only $3,300 and scooped 9.5pts against Arsenal with four interceptions (+0.5pts) contributing.

In midfield, Yannick Bolasie ($5,400) is back for Palace and grabbed an assist (+6pts) on his return against Sunderland in midweek. Philippe Coutinho ($5,700) has picked up where he left off too since injury, while Stephane Sessegnon ($4,200) could be an interesting option having average 9.1pts this season.

For Manchester United, that man Marcus Rashford – tipped by us last week – should get your pick again this week for only $4,800.
