Adidas release groundbreaking laceless boot

Adidas have traditionally been at the forefront of the latest innovations in football technology. This year they are taking that to the next level following the release of the Ace 16+ Purecontrol, the world’s first laceless, high-performance football boot.

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Starting on January 23, players such as Arsenal superstar Mezut Ozil and Barcelona Champions League-winner Ivan Rakitic will wear the boots on the pitch for the first time.

A limited number of the boots will also be available to the public in Paris, Marseille, London, Barcelona and Manchester.

Adidas announced the move to produce laceless boots in 2015, with plenty of speculation then surrounding how they were going to achieve this feat. That secret has now been revealed.

The laces have been replaced with three key points of stability to lock the foot into the boot.

The result is a glove-like fit and the larger surface area allows users to generate more power, resulting in the cleanest possible strike

Ozil was crucial to the product’s development and the German can’t wait to start using them in the field of battle.

Rakitic is another of the players who will don the new boots

“My whole career I have tried to minimise the impact of laces on my strike and ball control,” he said.

“I revealed to adidas in 2014 that in the changing room I knot the laces over and over again and then tuck in the ends, that way they do not interfere with my touch.

“When they came to me last year with the laceless boots, it was like they have created my dream product.

“I cannot wait to wear them on the pitch”.

The boot has undergone a rigorous testing process, from grassroots football through to cutting edge robotic trials.

The boot also features an enlarged heel pocket and a redeveloped sole plate designed to reduce weight.
