FFT’s 2016 Malaysia Super League Team of the Year
Goalkeeper – Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Johty (Perak)
With no clear winner, as none of the keepers were nominated more than once, 23-year-old Hafizul Hakim just about edged his peers.
He recorded six clean sheets, joint-best with three other custodians. It was a fine effort considering he only made his debut in February due to Perak's goalkeeping crisis.
Right back – S. Kunanlan (JDT)
The former Malaysia international, who has often been labelled Mr Reliable, made the list three times. Kunanlan can also play on the left and as a winger.
Centre-back – Marcos Antonio (JDT)
No other player was named in previous best teams more often than this Brazillian defender.
The Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) centre-back was only missing twice and that was largely because of Mario Gomez’s rotation policy.
His composure at the back was crucial in JDT finishing unbeaten throughout their MSL campaign.
Centre-back – Shukor Adan (Felda)
For someone who is already 37, Shukor is defying the laws of aging. He was the heartbeat of Felda’s defence and it’s unlikely the Fighters would have finished second without this defensive stalwart.
He showed his versatility by even making FourFourTwo’s August team of the month as a midfielder.
Left-back – Fazly Mazlan (JDT)
Fazly only appeared once, but no one else appeared more than that so the Southern Tiger gets our nod.
Often, no left-backs even made the line-up yet Fazly is proving the best full-back in the MSL and, at only 22, he could establish himself as a household name if he stays consistent.
