FFT’s MSL 2017 Team of the Month: July

July saw plenty of matches as the Malaysia Cup also kicked-off, but for the sake of this monthly series only the Malaysia Super League (MSL) was taken into account. Unsurprisingly, players from the best performers Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Felda United dominate FourFourTwo’s team of the month.

We are part of The Trust Project What is it?

Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy (Perak)

Hafizul, who earned his first international cap against the Philippines earlier this year, was outstanding in July by conceding only five goals in five matches.

The 24-year-old is commanding in aerial balls and an excellent shot stopper. Hafizul’s excellent performances earned him a national call-up again under coach Nelo Vingada for upcoming matches in August and September

Thiago Junio (Perak)

Blessed with stamina, quick pace and tenacious tackling, it’s no wonder that Junio is rated among the best defenders in the M-League.

The 33-year-old’s is also known for his aerial prowess, and can be very dangerous in set-pieces. His advanced age has not slowed the Brazilian down as the dependable centre-back hopes to lead Perak to top three in the MSL this season.

Fadhli Shas (JDT)

Fadhli received a new lease of life and the centre-back made quite an impression in four of the five matches he featured in for JDT in July.

The 26-year-old is dependable and has been solid in the heart of defence with Brazilian Marcos Antonio. Fadhli, who scored a goal each in the wins over Perak (2-1) and T-Team (6-1), is another player Vingada has recalled for coming matches.

Shukor Adan (Felda)

The former Malaysian captain’s leadership at Felda is undoubted. He has been used as a defender and also in central midfield in July, where the Fighters won four of their five matches to rise up the standings. Shukor also scored a goal in their club’s 3-1 win over Selangor on July 26.

Felda, who seemed like a mid-table season team in the first half of the season, are now within a shout of finishing second.
