Goalkeeper of the Season
Despite not making a single appearance in our Team of the Week, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat is our choice for Goalkeeper of the Season due to his consistent displays throughout. The nomination might come as a surprise to some of you, especially when the Kelantan custodian only managed to keep five clean sheets, fewer than the likes of Farizal Marlias (nine), Khairul Azhan Khalid (seven) and Farizal Harun (six). However, according to our data, his saves to shots ratio (4.26 per match) was significantly higher than the trio. For example, Farizal only made 1.56 saves per match, and the JDT goalkeeper was also helped by the fact that opponents did not muster a single shot on target at him on three separate occasions. Hence, after factoring that in, the man known as ‘Apek’ is our man between the sticks.
