Gustavo Lopez named FourFourTwo's Malaysian Super League Player of the Month
The 31-year-old Argentine was in fantastic form throughout February as he claimed four assists and scored one goal in all competitions to help the Turtles keep up pressure on the top.
Lopez began the season with a bang by grabbing an assist and scoring a sweet free-kick against Selangor in the season opener. He failed to prevent his team from losing 3-1 in the following match against Sarawak, but he bounced back immediately against Sime Darby as he set up both of Paulo Rangel's goals to secure a 2-1 win. He was up to his usual tricks in the Malaysian FA Cup too, creating an assist in Terengganu's 3-1 first-round win over Melaka United.
Besides his set-piece ability and eye for a killer pass, he proved to be a team player as well, especially during the league win over Sime Darby where he displayed his selflessness by squaring the ball to Rangel to score the decisive winning goal, despite having a great opportunity to get his own name on the scoresheet.
When quizzed about that, Lopez told TerengganuFA.my: "We have to work as a team to achieve success; personal glory must not come at the team’s expense in football.”
Other players in contention for the monthly award included young Perak winger Nurridzuan Hassan and Felda United captain Shukor Adan.
