Coach: B. Sathiananthan

Captain: Shukor Adan

Biggest win: Malaysia 6 Afghanistan 0 (Merdeka Tournament)

Biggest defeat: Malaysia 1 Myanmar 4 (Grand Royal Challenge)

Form heading into Suzuki Cup: DLDWD

Things were looking good for Malaysia after an impressive start to the Merdeka Tournament, but a defeat to the Vietnam under-23 in the final caused alarm bells to ring. Malaysia’s only defeat prior to that had come in an exhibition match against Chelsea.

Results following the Merdeka Tournament was not up to mark either as Malaysia exacted revenge over Vietnam at the Grand Royal Challenge but lost to hosts Myanmar 4-1.

Satiananthan also turned to several experienced players such as Kaironnisam Sahabudin Hussain, Hardi Jaafar and Helmi Eliza Elias but the move backfired as the team struggled to gel at the Suzuki Cup.

Malaysia won the opening group match against Laos but bowed out of the group stage following losses to Vietnam and Thailand.
