JDT maintain six-point lead into mid-season break

Malaysia Super League (MSL) defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) needed a solitary Amirulhadi Zainal goal against PKNS to ensure they entered the mid-season break six points above Pahang and Kedah.

The Southern Tigers were far from their polished selves, with new signing Mohamed Ghaddar squandering a couple of chances on his debut, but the Lebanese international played a big role in JDT's 1-0 win at Shah Alam Stadium in the end.

Ghaddar, who scored 18 goals for Kelantan to top the scoring charts before his recent move down South, miscued his shot in the 73rd minute but it allowed Amirulhadi to apply the finishing touches.

JDT have collected 30 points from 13 matches while nearest challengers Pahang and Kedah, who also recorded wins on Wednesday, are on 24 points.

The MSL takes a five-week break for the Ramadhan fasting month and Aidilfitri celebrations, resuming the nine remaining rounds on July 1.

Sarawak, meanwhile, climbed out of the relegation zone after holding Perak to a scoreless night in Ipoh. Malacca are now 11th in the 12-team league after their 3-0 loss to Felda United.

Kedah were comfortable 3-0 winners over T-Team in Alor Setar with Danish forward Ken Ilso bagging a hat-trick, while Matheus Alves's double in the second half ensured Pahang enjoyed a 2-0 win over Selangor in Selayang.

Penang are still bottom of the pile but they reduced the gap to safety by one point after recording a 2-2 draw with Kelantan in Kota Bahru.

New signing Sanna Nyassi, who initially signed for Kelantan just weeks ago, scored two for the Panthers.

Sarawak, meanwhile, climbed out of the relegation zone after holding Perak to a scoreless night in Ipoh. Malacca are now 11th in the 12-team league after their 3-0 loss to Felda United.
