Malaysia Cup semi-finals – 2015 finalists gunning for early advantage at home

Selangor vs T-Team

Sat October 1 | Darul Aman Stadium | 9pm

Last meeting: T-Team 1 Selangor 0 (3 August 2016, MSL)

Form: Selangor – LWLWD; T-Team – LWWDW

Having suffered humiliation after humiliation in the MSL, Selangor need to reach another Malaysia Cup final to salvage their season.

The Red Giants have had problems on and off the pitch for months and could even drop as low as seventh in the league standings after last weekend’s penultimate round defeat to Perak. Selangor, however, have come good in the Malaysia Cup under interim coach K. Gunalan.

The 5-3 aggregate win over Selangor in the last round failed to lift the cloud shrouding over Selangor as the club have looked lacklustre all season, giving rise to suggestions that a robust outfit like T-Team could be difficult to overcome.

Selangor will need to win this tie and the Cup to salvage their season

T-Team, who will be without suspended quarter-final match-winner Dilshod Sharofetdinov, have punched well above their weight this season to squash pre-season relegation prediction.

The Titans entered the MSL through the back-door following LionsXII’s exit and if they ever needed any reassurance that they belong with the big boys, their win over league runners-up in the last round provides the perfect tonic.

T-Team coach Rahmad Darmawan has come out saying he will ensure compatriot Andik Vermansyah is marked out of the game, but the winger told local press he will share Rahmad’s tactics to his teammates. The pair have worked together for the Indonesia national team in the past.
