Malaysia Football Awards –FourFourTwo’s Best Defenders

Malaysia Super League (MSL) teams often depend on foreign centre-backs to hold the fort but there were a few Malaysian defenders who performed admirably, some proving to be the best in their respective positions.

Shukor Adan (Felda United)

It is easy to forget Shukor’s age if you kept a close eye on the 2016 MSL title race between Felda and JDT.

The Fighters have to thank Shukor for his excellent defending this season, often coming to their rescue when his centre-back partner Carlos Alberto Marangoni from Brazil was looking unsettled at the start of the season.

Shukor, who turned 37 in September, commands the back-four like no other local player in the league and has leadership skills that has earned recognition from countless coaches and peers.

FourFourTwo understands Malaysia coach Ong Kim Swee wanted to turn to Shukor following Aidil Zaquan Abdul Radzak’s retirement but the latter refused to come out of international retirement.
