Malaysia Football Awards –FourFourTwo’s Best Goalkeepers

Although Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) Izham Tarmizi Roslan was surprisingly omitted from the Best Goalkeepers shorts, there were still several other outstanding goalkeepers in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) last season. FourFourTwo gave three their vote for the December 23 awards.

Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy (Perak)

Thrown into the starting line-up because of injury to Zamir Selamat at the start of the season, the 23-year-old never looked back as he cemented a starting place at Perak and later earned an international call-up.

Hafizul kept 11 clean sheets in 29 match across all domestic competition – the best clean sheet to match ratio in 2016.

The former Harimau Muda B trainee was never among the goalkeepers to look out for in the country and was playing in third-tier FAM League for Malacca in 2015.

His rise to the top is testament of how players need to make the most of opportunities provided when injuries and suspension strike.

There are still several goalkeepers ahead of him in the Tigers pecking order but Hafizul could be knocking on their doors if he continues his 2016 performance in the 2017 season.
