Malaysia Player Ratings: Pride in defeat as Young Tigers match South Koreans stride for stride

South Korea may have edged Malaysia 2-1 in the AFC Under-23 Championship but Ong Kim Swee’s men matched their opponents in just about every department – including possession – despite the supposed gulf in standard between the two countries.

HAZIQ NADZLI: 7.5

Haziq had a good game despite spilling several shots in the first half, but gathering them at the second attempt. He upped the ante in the second half and pulled off several vital saves – including a stunning double stop in the 76th minute – to ensure Malaysia were within a shout till the final whistle.

ADAM NOR AZLIN: 6.5

The skipper wasn’t as solid as the final group match against Saudi Arabia and got beaten on several occasions. His distribution wasn’t as effective compared to the other two centre-backs. He also blasted the ball high and wide when presented a good chance to equalise in the second half.

IRFAN ZAKARIA: 7

Irfan had an easier time today as the Malaysians were very tight in the middle. He held the line well and was there to provide cover for his teammates.

DOMINIC TAN: 7

Tan did his job at the back, showing signs that he has matured in this tournament after a shaky outing against Iraq on the opening day.
