MSL Talking Points: Perak give Weigang ‘gag order’, TMJ blames himself

German coach Karl Weigang was not allowed to speak to the press following a mighty 2-1 win over defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) while the Southern Tigers’ owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim took blame for the club’s slow start.

Weigang given gag order

The former Malaysia coach is known for his outspoken personality when speaking to the press, be it about his players, Malaysian football or present employers.

Having already criticised Perak Football Association in previous interviews, Weigang appears to be barred from speaking to the press.

The official report following Perak’s 2-1 win over JDT in Ipoh stated: “Weigang was not allowed to attend the press conference on orders by the team manager because he has been bringing down the image of the Perak management.”

In most cases in Malaysia, the coach would have already been shipped off, but Weigang is a fan favourite. A poor run of results, however, could leave his position untenable.
