MSL Update: Pahang top table after Kedah drop points

A come-from-behind 2-1 win over East Coast neighbours Kelantan in Kota Bahru saw Pahang climb above Kedah on goal difference at the top of the Malaysia Super League (MSL) standings after the Red Eagles only managed a point against PKNS.

Pahang and Kedah are level on 19 points but the Elephants have a better goal difference thanks to their blistering attack. Pahang have found the back of the net 24 times – the league’s best – this season.

MSL top scorer Mohammad Ghaddar scored his seventh goal in three league matches in the 16th minute as the Red Warriors went into the break with the lead.

Pahang, however, stepped up the ante in the second half and were rewarded with a two-minute blitz through Wan Zaharulnizam Zakaria, who left Kelantan for Pahang at the end of last season, and Matheus Alves.

Ken Ilso and co found the going tough against PKNS

Kedah, meanwhile, went behind against PKNS to a Lucas Espindola strike after 29 minutes in Alor Setar but defender Zachary Anderson equalised eight minutes later as the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

Defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) dropped to fifth after Selangor’s 2-1 win over Sarawak and Perak’s 2-2 with T-Team, but the Southern Tigers have two games in hand over those above them.

JDT welcome Malacca to Larkin on Sunday and a win will see them return to third and just two points behind the early leaders.

A resurgent Felda United welcome bottom-placed Penang in the other match on Sunday.
