MSL Wrap: JDT pull away at the top

Malaysia Super League (MSL) defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) extended their lead at the top of the standings after closest challengers Pahang and Kedah dropped points.

The Southern Tigers went a goal down in Shah Alam after Bobby Gonzalez put PKNS ahead after 33 minutes before coming away with maximum point to cap a good week.

JDT, who have 23 points, are now three points clear of Pahang, who twice cancelled Selangor's lead to draw 2-2 in Kuantan.

JDT made it three league wins on the trot after an own goal by Matias Nicolas and a Safiq Rahim penalty.

Safiq also scored a hattrick against Malacca and a goal against Kelantan last week, showing no signs of being stripped the captaincy.

Early leaders Kedah lost more ground from the top after a shocking 5-0 defeat to Terengganu-based club T-Team at Sultan Ismail Ibrahim Stadium.

Kedah have hit a rut all of a sudden

MSL topscorer meanwhile Mohamed Ghaddar took his season tally to 16 with a four goals in Kelantan's 5-1 win over Penang. The Lebanese forward has scored 13 in his last five matches - including three hat-tricks.

In other matches, Malacca held Felda United 1-1 while Sarawak and Perak played in a six-goal thriller to draw 3-3 in Kuching.
