Chan Vathanaka

Apart from giving Malaysia a run for their money, qualifier Cambodia never looked like getting out of Group B.

But Vathanaka’s performance gave hope for the future, one where Cambodia could overtake struggling Malaysia and Singapore.

Still only 22, Vathanaka bagged a brace against Malaysia after consistently troubling Shahrom Kalam and Shahrul Saad.

He even gave Myanmar and Vietnam concerns but it was difficult shouldering the responsibility all alone due to the disparity in standards with the rest of the squad.

Vathanaka looked more polished than some strange singings MSL sides have made before. He is expected to sign for Japanese J3 side Fujieda MYFC but Malaysia would be more financially rewarding.
