Possible Malaysia XI vs North Korea: Much for Vingada to think about

Having suffered a 4-1 loss in the reverse fixture on Friday, Malaysia need to ring changes to stand a chance against North Korea in the Asian Cup qualifiers at I-Mobile Stadium in Buriram on Monday. Vijhay Vick picks the line-up Nelo Vingada should go with.

GOALKEEPER: IZHAM TARMIZI ROSLAN

Vingada has already looked past this dependable Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) custodian twice, preferring Khairul Azhan Khalid (against Lebanon) and Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy against the North Koreans on Friday, but Izham has been in better form and should get the nod this time.

LEFT-BACK: FAZLY MAZLAN

There is no better option for left-back in the country and Fazly starting should be a no-brainer.

CENTRE-BACK: FADHLI SHAS

Given the armband on his return to international football for the first this year, Fadhli is slated for another start. He has been the best local centre-back in the Malaysia Super League (MSL), even when Brazilian defensive partner Marcos Antonio was out injured for JDT.

CENTRE-BACK: ADAM NOR AZLIN

Based on experience and familiarity, Shahrom Kalam should be included but considering the manner in which Vingada experimented in some positions last week, the Portuguese gaffer might as well give Adam a start.

The youngster has done well in a back-three formation with Selangor and Malaysia Under-22 but there are some reservations on how he would play in a back-four line line-up.

RIGHT-BACK: S. KUNANLAN

With Rizal Ghazali and Matthew Davies not included in the squad, there is unlikely to be any change here. Perak full-back Amirul Azhan Aznan is another option but he appears to be in the squad merely as back-up.
