Ten players OKS can consider for Timor Leste games

Malaysian coach Ong Kim Swee is expected to name his squad next week ahead of the two-legged 2019 Asian Cup qualifying playoff against Timor Leste in the beginning of June. Vijhay Vick lists several players that have impressed recently and can be considered for the national team, including those that missed the previous call-up due to injury.

Farizal Marlias (JDT)

The Southern Tigers custodian is highly rated by the coaching set-up but missed out on representing Malaysia in March due to a wrist injury.

When available, Farizal leaves Malaysian goalkeeper coach Kris Yong with a tough choice to make as Kelantan’s Khairul Fahmi Che Mat is an equally outstanding custodian.

The duo have rotated the No. 1 jersey so many times, it is difficult to tell who the first-choice is.

If Farizal is recalled, either Izham Tarmizi Roslan or Farhan Abu Bakar would be dropped. The duo are tipped to replace Farizal and Khairul Fahmi eventually.

Fazly Mazlan (JDT)

This 22-year-old left-back was Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) breakout player last year after Asraruddin Putra Omar suffered a long-term injury.

Asraruddin is fit again but finds himself on the bench as Fazly has carried his good his form into 2016.

He was expected to be given a call-up for the international matches against Saudi Arabia and Macau a couple of months ago but he got injured, leaving Ong with no choice but to convert right-backs S. Kunanlan and Azrif Nasrulhaq to the other side.
