Vingada calls up six from SEA Games squad for crunch Asian cup qualifiers

The Pahang duo of Matthew Davies and Nor Azam Azih were part of Malaysian coach Nelo Vingada's squad back in June, but were left out against Hong Kong in September because of the SEA Games. They are among six players to be recalled...

Vingada also called up Ifwat Akmal Chek Kassim (Kedah), Safawi Rasid from Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) , Adam Nor Azlin (Selangor) and Syamer Kutty Abba (Penang). Apart from Ifwat, who was second-choice keeper behind Haziq Nadzli at the Games, the rest were key players in Ong Kim Swee's Malaysia under-22 squad.

The other new face in the squad is 23-year-old Nazmi Faiz Mansor, also of JDT.

The squad will report for duty in Johor Bahru on Saturday before leaving for Pyongyang via Singapore and Beijing on October 3.

Insa was not selected by Vingada

Malaysia play North Korea on October 5 before visiting Hong Kong five days later.

The players dropped from the previous squad include the suspended Rizal Ghazali and Aidil Zafuan Abd Radzak, who both received red cards against Hong Kong.

JDT's Natxo Insa, who has impressed many since he arrived from Levante in July, was among the glaring omissions while the likes of Fazly Mazlan, S. Kunanlan and Junior Elstal were also not called up.
