Balestier Khalsa 0 JDT 1: Asraruddin snatches victory for Southern Tigers

Asraruddin Putra Omar scored a last-minute goal as Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) claimed a 1-0 AFC Cup win over Balestier Khalsa.

Starting the match with an all-Malaysian line-up, the Southern Tigers struggled to break down a resilient Balestier side at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Although the away side had the lion's share of possession, they were unable to create notable goal-scoring opportunities even with the introductions of Safiq Rahim, S. Kunanlan and Hariss Harun from the bench.

Amri Yahyah did manage to find the back of the net in the 86th minute, but he was ruled offside.

Just when the match looked destined for a draw, a quick free-kick taken by JDT and played to Hariss caught the Balestier players off-guard.

The Singapore international fed the overlapping Asraruddin, who drilled a deflected effort past Balestier goalkeeper Zaiful Nizam Abdullah to secure the three points for his side.

With two wins from two matches, Bojan Hodak’s men are now occupying the top spot in Group F following a 1-1 draw between Kitchee FC and East Bengal in the other group match.

JDT will next face Kitchee at the Mongkok Stadium in Hong Kong next Tuesday.
