Caracas 3 Metropolitanos 1: Corners lead hosts to victory
All three of Caracas' goals came from corners, as they bounced back from their 1-0 home loss to Estudiantes de Merida in their opening game of the Apertura campaign.
The victory saw Caracas move into third in the standings on three points, only behind leaders Deportivo Tachira on goal difference and level with Deportivo La Guaira, who sit second due to their game in hand on the capital club.
Metropolitanos, who finished second in the Segunda Division last season to gain promotion to Venezuela's top tier, started strongly with Jorge Alberto Rojas opening the scoring in the 15th minute.
But Caracas responded two minutes before half-time with Giacomo Di Giorgi diving to head the ball past the visiting goalkeeper, after Victor Sifontes' corner had been flicked on at the near post.
On the hour mark, another Caracas corner was only partially cleared and when the ball was crossed into the box again, Metropolitanos forward Nicolas Bubas diverted it into his own net.
The home side wrapped up their win just two minutes later with Roberto Tucker reacting fastest when a corner bounced in Metropolitanos' defensive area, lashing the ball into the bottom corner.
The loss left Metropolitanos without a point from two matches, sitting 17th of 18 teams.
