Chappuis back on track to haunt Suzuki Cup opponents
The Thai-Swiss came off the bench in the 30th minute of the game for his first appearance in 16 months and Chappuis could not hide his happiness at doing so.
“I’m very happy to be back for the first time in many months,” Chappuis told FourFourTwo Thailand.
“I have worked hard to come back again. I’d like to thank the club for proceeding gradually, they try to make sure that I’m healed completely.”
Singapore and Malaysia alike will remember how the 24-year-old was a thorn in their respective sides at the 2014 Suzuki Cup.
Chappuis scored four goals at the tournament that year, all of which proved vital in ensuring Thailand took home the title.
Now that he is fit again, Chappuis is aiming to regain match fitness first, before targeting for a recall to the Thailand national team.
“I can’t tell you when I can play a competitive game, it depends on how my body responds,” he said.
“Now I just want to gain match fitness and sharpness to make sure that there is no any setback but all in all, I’m happy and will do everything it step by step.”
