Malaysian FA Cup Wrap: Extra-time heartbreak for Selangor

An own goal and a Zairo Annuar Zalani strike in extra-time sent Terengganu through to the Malaysian FA Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Selangor.

Selangor, who lost 2-0 to the 2011 FA Cup winners in the Malaysian Super League earlier in the season, dominated the majority of the match and constantly threatened the visitors' goal.

Playing at the Shah Alam Stadium, the home side successfully took the lead in the 21st minute when Brazilian striker Guilherme De Paula buried a header off a Nazmi Faiz Mansor free-kick.

However, despite creating plenty of goal-scoring chances especially in the first half, Selangor failed to make the most out of it, which allowed the Turtles to slowly crawl back into the game.

Vincent Bikana finally made the Red Giants lament their profligacy in front of goal with an equaliser in the dying minutes of the game to take the match to extra-time.

In extra time, Selangor failed to maintain their tempo and conceded in the 104th minute when Robert Cornthwaite inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.

Zairo then killed off the tie with a simple tap-in in the final minute of extra-time after Argentine midfielder Gustavo Lopez hit the post with a free-kick.

Abdul Rahman Ibrahim's team will next Perak, who defeated Terengganu-based side T-Team in the previous round, in the FA Cup.
