Milner proud to wear number seven at Liverpool

James Milner spoke of his pride of being handed the number seven shirt at Liverpool.

Milner was handed the iconic number after he joined the club from Manchester City on a free transfer.

Last worn by Luis Suarez who left for Barcelona last summer, the shirt was previously donned by the likes of Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Peter Beardsley, and Steve McManaman.

Ahead of the Reds' friendly match against Malaysia XI at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Friday night, Milner spoke in a press conference about being given the shirt.

"I'm proud to wear the number and hope that I will do it proud," he said before insisting that all numbers are equally iconic at Liverpool.

"At a big club like Liverpool, all numbers are iconic and massive.

"I think you can list out world class players for each number."

The former Newcastle United and Aston Villa star, who has netted two goals in the preseason so far, also talked briefly about getting along with his new team-mates.

"The preseason is a great time to spend time with the boys and get to know them a lot better.

"We have played a few games together, so the preseason has been helpful.

"I feel like I’ve been at Liverpool a lot longer than I have."
