MSL Update: JDT held but Pahang fail to take advantage

Malaysia Super League (MSL) leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) were held 1-1 by Melaka while closest rivals Pahang were stunned 3-2 by Kelantan in Kuantan.

The Southerns Tigers managed to extend their lead at the top to six points despite an 87th-minute equaliser by South Korean Jae Woo-young.

Safiq Rahim had given the visitors the lead close to the hour mark for his eight league goal in 2017.

Kedah, however, can pip Pahang and reduce JDT's lead to four points if they defeat PKNS at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday.

In Kuantan, Alessandro Celin got a rare goal to put the visitors ahead after 17 minutes. The Brazilian may not be at the club for much longer though as the club are already looking for replacements after he struggled with injuries from the start of the season.

Matheus Alves bagged a brace, twice cancelling the Red Warriors' lead but Mohamad Ghaddar also netted two goals to take his personal tally to a whooping 18.

For comparisons, last year's top scorer Jorge Pereyra Diaz of JDT scored 18 the entire season. Ghaddar has 10 matches and is well on course to break Marlon Alex James' 23-goal record since the leagues were revamped in 2004.

In Saturday's only other match, T-Team continued their fine run with a 3-0 win over Perak at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Stadium. The Titans have won their last three matches - including a 5-0 win over Kedah - without conceding a goal.
