Selangor sacks Zainal Abidin

Hours after the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali declared his intention for an overhaul of the club, head coach Zainal Abdin was let go…

Selangor have sacked head coach Zainal Abdin Hassan after a less-than-ideal season so far.

His sacking came on the back of Football Association of Selangor (FAS) president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s orders to revamp the club.

Datuk Seri made the announcement after Selangor suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, with a 1-0 defeat to Kedah the last straw.

Team manager Amirudin Shari and Noor Hisham Ghouth were tasked with to make the changes necessary to prevent the club from free-falling any further.

Selangor, who lost to Felda and T-Team in league over the past fortnight, were also stunned by struggling Pahang in the Malaysia Cup last month.

“After evaluating the performance of the coach, players and FAS management – including hearing feedback from all, stern actions need to be taken immediately,” read a statement by Azmin Ali on his social media accounts.

Selangor are currently 17 points behind league leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim, as well as 13 points away from second-placed Felda United.

Their loss to Kedah leaves them just hanging onto third place, as the latter are one point behind after the win. Just a week ago, the gap was seven points.

Zainal had only taken charge of Selangor this season, after leaving Pahang at the end of last season.
