Summareh stunner breaks JDT's heart as Pahang reach FA Cup semi-final

A dramatic late goal from Mahamadou Summareh carried Pahang into the Malaysia FA Cup semi-finals, overcoming holders Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) 4-3 on aggregate despite a 2-1 defeat in Sunday's second leg.

The Elephants won the first leg 3-1 in Kuantan a forthnight ago, but the Southern Tigers roared back into contention with two early goals on Sunday night to quickly draw level.

Gonzalo Cabrerra put the hosts ahead after he was sent through on goal by Safiq Rahim's defence splitting pass in the sixth minute.

JDT were regularly first to the ball and kept pressuring Pahang into mistakes, getting their second goal after Gabriel Guerra beat the offside trap to convert Azrif Nasrulhaq's through ball.

In the second half, Pahang began pushing for the goal they needed to upset the home side, with coach Dollah Salleh bringing on more attacking firepower in Christie Jayaseelan and Ashaari Samsudin.

Yet the Elephants barely tested Izham Tarmizi Roslan's goal until Summareh’s 87th-minute header put the visitors back in front oveall and sent the Pahang bench into a frenzy.

Pahang will now play Malaysia Premier League side Negri Sembilan in the semi-finals, while Kedah visit another second tier side, Terengganu.

The first legs will be held in Pahang and Kedah on Friday and Saturday this week respectively, with the return legs to be staged on May 12 and 13.
