TMJ to vie with Annuar Musa for FAM presidency

Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim will battle former ally Tan Sri Annuar Musa for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) presidency on March 25.

Both candidates accepted their nomination when the deadline ended on Monday, setting up an intriguing battle to helm the national body.

Tunku Ismail and Annuar,  both of whom were in the same camp at the 2014 FAM Congress, have been throwing barbs at each other in recent months after relationship strained.

Tunku Ismail had attempted to be president three years ago but failed as Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was picked as his father's replacement.

Annuar, a former FAM deputy president, is seeking a comeback to the national body following his two-and-a-half year ban from football in 2012 after speaking to the press without permission.

Other nominees Malaysian Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and FAM integrity committee chairman Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat did not submit their acceptance.

Khairy had previously said he would not contest if Tunku Ismail was going for the post while Aseh's name only came into the picture after Tunku Ismail had recommended him months ago.
