Al Ahli and Ismaili to contest Egypt title playoff
CAIRO - Defending champions Al Ahli and Ismaili will face each other in a playoff to decide the Egyptian title after both teams finished level at the top of the standings on Wednesday. Al Ahli, seeking a fifth successive league title, scored twice in stoppage time to beat Al Gaish 3-1 in their last game of the regular season while Ismaili had a more comfortable 3-0 win over Tersana. Midfielder Ahmed Fathi rescued his Al Ahli with a long-range shot five minutes into stoppage time and there was still time for another goal as the team extracted themselves from a tied scoreline, which would have handed Ismaili their first title since 2002. Although Al Ahli finished with a better goal difference, Egypt league rules do not allow for the title to be decided that way. The playoff is scheduled for Cairo on Sunday.
