MADRID - Almeria sacked coach Gonzalo Arconada after the side's 1-0 Primera Liga defeat away to Sporting Gijon on Sunday. "The club decided to sack Arconada for the team's results. After today's game they have gone five without a win and have only claimed one point," Almeria said in a statement on their website. "The club also wanted to make the most of the break for the Christmas holidays to leave sufficient time to find a replacement." Arconada, 47, was appointed to replace current Valencia boss Unai Emery in July but Almeria have now slipped to 16th in the standings after the defeat at promoted Sporting. They have just one win from their last 11 matches and are three points above the relegation places.
