Appiah snubbed extended stay with Spurs

Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah has revealed he snubbed Tottenham Hotspur's offer to extend his trial at White Hart Lane during the January transfer window. Appiah has been a free agent since leaving Fenerbahce last year having endured a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury. The 28-year-old spent time on trial at Tottenham in January, with London rivals Arsenal also believed to have considered offering the midfielder a deal while Cesc Fabregas was out injured with a serious knee injury. However, nothing ever materialised. And the former Parma and Juventus man has now revealed Spurs were keen on keeping hold of him for an additional month to monitor his progress, only for the Black Stars' skipper to turn down the opportunity. "Tottenham wanted me," he told La Repubblica. "I was there for five days on trial. "Then they asked me to extend the trial to three weeks and, when everything seemed ready, confirmed that it takes a month of training to assess. "I know that I have lost [two years] and it is difficult to digest. But now I want to return. I have always been a professional and I want to remain so."
