Arshavin: Gunners will do double next season

Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin believes recruiting just two or three players this summer will help the Gunners challenge for both Premier League and Champions League glory from next season. The £15 million arrival from Zenit St Petersburg has made an explosive start to his Premier League career, netting six goals in 11 outings - including four against Liverpool at Anfield - as well as captaining the side on only his 10th outing at Portsmouth. However, the Emirates Stadium outfit have now endured four consecutive campaigns without winning a trophy since their 2005 FA Cup triumph, with manager Arsene Wenger under pressure from supporters to add experienced heads to a squad awash with talented youngsters. But Arshavin is confident his new side merely require tweaking over the close season in order to match Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea in 2009/10. "I think we need to buy two or three players, but it is up to our manager to decide which positions he wants to strengthen," he said. "I would not say we lack experience, since Arsenal consistently plays in the Champions League and always gets to the latter stages of the competition. "Thankfully, many players have had plenty of games against top opposition in the Premier League as well. "But sometimes they could do with a bit more maturity or composure. It will come, you just need time. "From next season, I am expecting victories in the Champions League and in the Premier League."
