Bowyer seals Birmingham switch

Former England international Lee Bowyer signed a two-year contract with Birmingham City on Wednesday, making permanent his move to the club following a successful loan spell there last season.

The newly promoted Premier League side confirmed the deal on their website, a day after completing the move for their club record signing, Ecuadorean striker Christian Benitez.

The 32-year-old Bowyer made 17 appearances and helped Birmingham win promotion from the Championship last season and has rejoined the club after being released by West Ham.

He is manager Alex McLeish's seventh signing of the off-season, joining Stephen Carr, Scott Dann, Roger Johnson, Joe Hart, Giovanny Espinoza and Benitez among the new arrivals at St Andrew's.
