Carvalhal to quit Sporting at end of season

LISBON - Sporting coach Carlos Carvalhal is to leave at the end of season after the Portuguese club decided not to renew his contract for another year.

Sporting said in a statement on Wednesday that Carvalhal would remain in charge until June 30 while the club searches for a new coach for next season.

Carvalhal joined the Lisbon club in November after Paulo Bento resigned following a poor start to the season.

Sporting's performances have been intermittent under Carvalhal. They are fourth in the Portuguese League, 23 points behind leaders Benfica.
