ASUNCION - Cerro Porteno won Paraguay's Apertura championship on the final day of the season on Sunday when captain Jorge Britez's goal gave them a 1-0 win over 12 de Octubre. Britez struck six minutes before halftime to give Cerro the win at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion and their first title since 2005 and 28th altogether. 12 de Octubre played a man short from the 66th minute following a red card for Diego Martinez for a bad foul on striker Victor Ferreira. Libertad, winners of the previous four championships, including two last year in the revised format, finished second four points behind Cerro after a 0-0 draw with Tacuary.
