BUENOS AIRES - Ecuador's Deportivo Cuenca clinched the final spot in the second round of the Libertadores Cup when they drew 1-1 away to Paraguay's Guarani on Thursday. Brazilian striker Rodrigo Teixeira put Cuenca ahead after just two minutes in Asuncion when he headed in his sixth goal of the competition. Osvaldo Diaz equalised from a free kick in the 55th minute for the eliminated Paraguayans. Cuenca finished second in Group Two with 10 points, one ahead of Venezuelan champions Deportivo Tachira, who lost 3-0 at Boca Juniors. Striker Martin Palermo scored twice for Boca, opening his account with a penalty in the 13th minute and hooking in the second just after the hour. Rodrigo Palacio added the third with 10 minutes left, shortly after the 35-year-old Palermo, a cult figure at the club, went off to a standing ovation. Six-times champions Boca topped the table with 15 points and will face Uruguay's Defensor Sporting in the last sixteen.
