Former Liverpool full-back Steve Finnan is expected to have his contract cancelled at Espanyol, as he targets a return to English football. The Irish defender, who made more than 150 league appearances for both Fulham and Liverpool, only departed Anfield for Spain last summer, but has seen his progress in la Liga hampered by injuries, making just four appearances for Los Periquitos. The 33-year-old, who was linked with a move to Phil Brown’s Hull City in January, is now reportedly a target for several Premier League sides, including Portsmouth, Stoke City, Sunderland and newly promoted Wolves. And Espanyol sporting director Ramon Planas has confirmed that negotiations to cancel Finnan's contract with the club are ongoing. "We are negotiating to cancel his contract," Planas told the Spanish media. "Hopefully we can reach an agreement which works for everybody."
