Giggs scoops Sports Personality prize

LONDON - Veteran Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs was named the BBC's Sports Personality of 2009 in a public vote on Sunday.

The 36-year-old finished ahead of Formula One world champion Jenson Button and heptathlon world champion Jessica Ennis.

Welshman Giggs was adjudged the Professional Footballers' Association's top player in April for his role in leading United to their third consecutive Premier League title.

Giggs joined United in 1990 and has since made more than 800 appearances, a club record.
