LONDON - Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was left out of the team for Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea after failing to recover from a thigh injury. Gerrard has scored seven goals in this season's Champions League and his absence will be a big blow to Liverpool who are attempting to overturn a 3-1 defeat from the first leg at Anfield. The England midfielder suffered the injury in the first game against Chelsea and was kept on the substitutes' bench for Saturday's Premier League game against Blackburn Rovers.
