Ischia named new Atlas coach

MEXICO CITY - Argentine Carlos Ischia, who steered Boca Juniors to the league title in Argentina a year ago, has been appointed coach of Atlas, the Mexican club said.

Former Argentina midfielder Ischia, who replaces compatriot and former Mexico World Cup coach Ricardo La Volpe in the job, signed a one-year contract.

"Atlas have reached an agreement with Carlos Luis Ischia to train the Rojinegros (Red and blacks) for one year," the Guadalajara-based club said in a statement.

The 53-year-old Ischia, forced out of Boca in May to make way for Alfio Basile's return, has also coached Velez Sarsfield, Gimnasia-La Plata and Rosario Central in Argentina and Colombia's Atletico Junior.
