Marseille chairman Jean-Claude Dassier has confirmed the French club are interested in signing Valencia striker Fernando Morientes. The former Spanish international is the latest player to be linked with a move away from the cash-strapped club this summer, joining star duo David Villa and David Silva, who have long been tipped to leave the Mestalla. Should Morientes - who made 41 league appearances for Liverpool - join Marseille, he will be reunited with former manager Didier Deschamps, who he played under at Monaco, helping the Ligue 1 side reach the 2004 Champions League final. "Morientes? We are really interested in him, Didier Deschamps wants him," said Dassier. "I have to do what the coach asks me, so it could happen very soon."
