Mark McGhee, one of the heroes of Aberdeen's 1983 European Cup Winners Cup victory, has been appointed as the Scottish Premier League club's new manager. McGhee, part of the team that beat Real Madrid in the final in Gothenburg, moves from Motherwell, where he has been in charge since 2007. Aberdeen said in a statement that Scott Leitch, McGhee's assistant at Motherwell, would be part of the new coaching set-up at a club that finished fourth last season to qualify for Europe.
